A father whose uninsured house was destroyed in a bushfire has been lucky – he won $ 1 million in the Lotto.
The man, who wanted to remain anonymous, said he didn’t think his family could ever rebuild their home on the New South Wales coast after the devastating fires tore through the area during the New Year period.
However, his family can now afford it after his surprising $ 1 million win on Wednesday.
The man was unaware of his victory and was already working when he was summoned to inform him of his victory
The man, who was the only winner of the division one, was unbelieving when he learned the good news.
“I can’t wait to go home and give my wife a big kiss and a hug,” he said.
“The message was marked with her special numbers and now they have been delivered in a great way.”
The emotional winner said he hoped that his unexpected windfall symbolized the start of better things.
“This really came at the most incredible time,” he said.
“There were only a few charred tea cups left.

“We didn’t know if we could ever rebuild, but now we can.”
So far, the devastating bushfire season has cost 26 people and destroyed nearly 2,000 homes.
The cost of the disaster is still unclear, but the Insurance Council of Australia said that claims worth $ 700 million had already been filed and that the figure was expected to rise significantly.
The government has set aside a first $ 2 billion for a national recovery fund to help destroyed communities.
