A custody exchange in Los Angeles became violent on Monday evening when a three-year-old father was allegedly shot multiple times by his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend, who was subsequently arrested for attempted murder.

The creepy scene took place in the 16800 block of Chatsworth Street in Granada Hills shortly before 8 p.m. hands to try and stop the bleeding.

The victim, described as a 37-year-old man, was taken to a hospital that suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Researchers say he is not expected to survive.

The suspected shooter, identified as 29-year-old Ernesto Lopez, was detained by the police, Fox 11 LA reported.

According to the LAPD, the victim was in the neighborhood of Granada Hills on Monday evening to pick up his children from his ex-girlfriend when the two came into an oral dispute.

While the two were arguing, the father saw his ex's new mistress, Lopez, in a nearby car and rammed the man's vehicle with his own car.

At that time, according to police, Lopez produced a gun and opened fire on the father of the three, beating him several times.

The 37-year-old man is said to be life-saving in the hospital, where he is mentioned in a critical condition.

His seven-year-old son and the boy's two brothers and sisters were not physically damaged. They have since been put in custody at the Ministry of Children and Family Services.

The father's former girlfriend was not charged for the shooting. Allegedly she has a newborn baby with Lopez.

The incident comes just three weeks after the arrest of another California father, 31-year-old Jacob Munn, who is accused of killing his ex-girlfriend with a shotgun blast during a guardianship exchange outside the Hawthorne police station.
