Detectives hunt for gunman after a lawyer and father of two was named as the victim in a nighttime shooting in the city center.

Police found Khuram Javed fatally wounded on the streets of Sheffield after reports of gunfire on Saturday around 9:40 PM.

Javed, 30, was pronounced dead on the spot, just yards from Sheffield United FC’s Bramall Lane stadium.

A second 31-year-old man also suffered gunshot wounds and was taken to hospital for treatment.

A police cordon was constructed around the grounds of St Mary’s Church and towards Bramall Lane, while a forensic tent was erected nearby.

Mr. Javed worked as a lawyer in the city after studying law at Sheffield Hallam University and a legal practice at the University of Sheffield.

Police had not given an official name when they launched the murder investigation, but locals paid tribute to Mr Javed on social media.

The Justice for All People campaign posted on Facebook: ‘It is with great sadness to announce the tragic death of Javed Khan’s son Khuram Javed.

“Family and friends have used social media to express their grief at the tragic death of the University of Sheffield law graduate who worked as a lawyer at a local law firm on London Road.”

A friend wrote: ‘Very sad news about the death of Khuram Javed … in such a way [a] young [age] in such tragic circumstances.

‘I know him so [a] young age and I can’t compliment him enough – one of the best kids I’ve known all my life. ‘

A fundraising campaign has been launched on GoFundMe to support Javed’s family and funeral expenses.

Organizer Kash Khan said, “Words cannot express sorrow [the] loss of the life of such a wonderful young man. He left behind two beautiful children. ‘

Detective Superintendent Michael Hakin said: “Officers have been conducting extensive investigations overnight and we can now confirm that we are investigating a murder following a firearms discharge in Clough Road, Sheffield.

‘Research is still in its infancy, but our research is continuing at a rapid pace. A significant number of officers remain in the area.

“No arrests have been made at this time.

‘I would urge anyone with information about what happened to come forward. If you think you witnessed the incident or saw or heard anything suspicious, please contact us.

‘I am well aware that this incident could be troubling to the local community. Rest assured that we have committed additional resources to the area, and our team of specialists will continue to inquire to find those responsible.

“If you have any concerns, please speak to our agents on patrol.

“They are there to help and support you.”
