A man allegedly driving a stolen car belonging to the husband of a Labor MP has been left with permanent injuries after police shot him and another man.
Father-of-three Brendon Liebe was shot in the head in western Sydney when police opened fire on an allegedly stolen car he and another man were traveling in as it sped towards them on Friday.
Karen McKeown, state member for Penrith, called police when she realized her home had been broken into and her husband Brendan’s car was missing that morning.
Police followed the car’s tracking device to a parking lot beneath an apartment block on Lane Street in Wentworthville, where they allegedly found the men inside the vehicle.
The men allegedly drove the stolen car toward five officers, before three of them fired their weapons.
They were taken to Westmead Hospital. Liebe was reportedly shot in the head and is in critical condition in intensive care, while the other man was shot in the leg and remains in serious but stable condition.
Liebe’s mother believes her son will never fully recover.
“My son is in critical condition because these police officers shot him,” Tracey Liebe said in a video obtained by Nine News.
