The Dixie County Sheriff’s Office reports that Paul Reinhart, 46, murdered his two sons, 14-year-old Rex and 11-year-old Brody, before setting fire to his luxury vacation home and killing himself, although it is not clear how he died. .

The three were according to The Gainesville Sun. The cause of death of the boys has not yet been determined.

Delegates from Alachua County visited the family home in Gainesville around 6 a.m. Tuesday after a family member was concerned about Paul’s Facebook posts, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

While responding, delegates also learned that Paul Reinhart had sent several cryptic Facebook messages overnight and sent text messages to family about them, police said.

No one was at the house, and it was then that the deputies contacted Dixie County, who arrived at a vacation home that was already on fire, with Reinhart’s van outside.

“ While putting out the fire, Dixie County deputies discovered three deceased people in the home, ” said a joint statement from the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office and the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office.

The situation is made even more scary because of the similarities to an incident involving Paul’s brother.

Erick Von Reinhart, 49, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder after stabbing his ex-wife’s boyfriend in Pasco County in 2014.

After stabbing Alex Iliff to death, Erick – who had been divorced for a week – tried to commit suicide with the murder weapon, a kitchen knife, as his hidden ex-wife called the emergency number.

The Gainesville Sun reports that Erick was found on the bathroom floor, bleeding from self-inflicted stab wounds to his neck and stomach.

He pleaded for deputies to kill him, but he was hospitalized instead.

Erick’s legal defense in the fatal stabbing was paid for by his brother, Paul. Erick was eventually sentenced to 40 years in prison.

Regine Iliff, Alex’s mother, noted the similarities between the two brothers’ incidents when she learned what had happened to Paul and his sons.

“That sounds as bad as Erick,” said Regine.

The two boys were both junior baseball players in the Gainesville area prior to their tragic deaths, with Rex playing both as a pitcher and hitter for the Florida Heat.

Elite Baseball posted about their deaths on Facebook on May 4, claiming the organization was “ heartbroken. ”

Tragically, our boys Brody and Rex were taken from us way too soon. Their love for baseball is unparalleled and their impact on the baseball world will never be forgotten, ”the post said.

‘These guys were hugely loved in organizations from far and wide. Brody had the heart of a lion and Rex’s determination to be the best in the field was unmatched. We feel completely lost and broken. ‘

The Florida Heat also posted on Facebook about Rex’s death.

“Rex had an immediate impact on the team and in the lives of his teammates, both on and off the field,” they reported. He was kind, generous, funny, talented and a bit of a fashion icon with his flow and sunglasses. His loss is serious and we falter. ‘

Brody attended Chiles Elementary, while Rex attended Kanapaha Middle School.

The Rex and Brody Reinhart Memorial Fund is managed by the Community Foundation of North Central Florida.

The fund’s descriptions read, “The Rex and Brody Reinhart Memorial Fund was founded by friends and family to honor the boys and support the causes they cared most about.”

On Wednesday evening, a mural was made in Gainesville in honor of the two boys.
