A potentially costly exercise in trust has left onlookers stunned after a viral video showed a pair of designer sandals abandoned on the beach, completely unattended.
TikTok creator Kira Mintzer posted the 10-second clip in June, showing the pair of iconic black Hermes sandals on the sand of an East Hampton beach while their owner had gone for a swim.
“Only in the Hamptons will you see a couple of Hermes Orans abandoned on the beach while someone goes to frolic in the ocean because no one is going to take them,” the voiceover explained in the clip.
Kira, who grew up in New York and often vacations in the Hamptons, had a simple explanation for why the sandals were left exposed and alone: ”because it’s the Hamptons.”
Users were stunned by the costly leap of faith and joked that they would gladly travel to score a five-finger discount off the coast of New York.

“I feel like it’s an unspoken rule not to wear shoes to the beach because they obviously belong to someone,” another user chimed in.
“It’s an unspoken rule,” Kira replied. “Some people didn’t learn the rules growing up!”
In a later clip, Kira responded to a comment that read: “Now I know where I’m going on vacation. Watch out, Hamptons.”

“I know a lot of you are joking and left really funny comments, but I’m afraid there are some people who are actually serious,” she added.
In a comment, Kira added that some viewers failed “the shake test.”
“We don’t ~steal~ here,” he wrote.
The Hermes Oran sandals, which retail for $760, have been a staple at the luxury fashion house since 1997.
Sandals are one of the luxury brand’s most recognizable products and come in a range of colors.
The Hamptons have long been the place to be seen during the summer, with many New York City residents choosing to flee the sweltering heat of Manhattan and flock to the South Fork of Long Island each year.
Places like Sag Harbor, Montauk and Bridgehampton are very popular and many celebrities choose to buy property there, including Jennifer Lopez, who was recently spotted enjoying a bike ride near her luxurious Long Island mansion.
