Animal rights activists who broke into a pig barn and installed hidden cameras to uncover animal abuse found more than they bargained for when they checked the footage.

Among the weeks of video, the Farm Transparency Project’s cameras captured an alleged bestiality.

Footage of the alleged animal cruelty and brutality at the Midland Bacon factory in Carag Carag, Victoria, 180 kilometers north of Melbourne, was shown on the ABC’s 7.30 show on Monday night.

The program also revealed that Victorian police charged a man with animal cruelty last week and he will appear in court in June.

The allegations and images have come on the eve of an inquiry in state parliament into the welfare of farmed pigs.

In a statement issued to the ABC, Midland Bacon said it is ‘committed to humane treatment practices’.

Regarding the allegations of bestiality, it said: “We are unable to comment on the police allegation as this matter is now before the courts.”

Daily Mail Australia attempted to contact Midland Bacon for comment, but its listed phone number is no longer connected.
