Fantasy Football League Reunion! Frank Skinner and David Baddel join Statto Angus Loughran for lunch — 29 years after the show first aired

Fans of the BBC series The Fantasy Football League had an unexpected reunion on Thursday.

Former host David Baddel took to Instagram to share a hilarious snap alongside Frank Skinner and star Angus Loughran, who was known as ‘Statto’ on the series.

The trio is pictured on Instagram 29 years after the Fantasy Football League debuted, having been inspired by the sports phenomenon that swept radio in the early ’90s.

David shared an Instagram Snap with the caption: ‘Me, Frank, and Statto. We don’t look a day older. than we are.

Angus was a regular in the Fantasy Football League during his original career, when he would bring up football facts and stats on demand.

A blast from the past! Fantasy football stars David Baddel, Stato Angus Loughran and Frank Skinner gathered for lunch Thursday, 29 years after the show debuted.

David and Frank originally appeared in the series on BBC2 from 1994 to 1996, followed by a series of episodes during Euro 1996.

The duo also scored the now-famous hit Three Lions for the Euros, which became the anthem for the England national team in later years.

The show was then transferred to ITV for specials on alternating nights during the 1998 World Cup, and Euro 2004.

In May 2022 Sky Max announced that they would be reviving the format with hosts Ellis James and Matt Lucas.

It also comes after David found himself embroiled in a Twitter spat with John Terry, after jokingly suggesting to the former Chelsea and England captain that he host Match of the Day.

The BBC has announced that Gary Lineker will step back from presenting the company’s flagship programme, “until we have a clear and agreed position on his use of social media”.

Highlighting the situation on social media, Chelsea supporter Padel appeared to refer to Terry’s infamous lifting of the Champions League trophy in 2012.

Badel posted on social media in the wake of Lineker’s comment: “I wonder if John Terry, somewhere, is practicing his autocue.”

Terry, clearly unimpressed by the joke, responded, “Don’t use my name for a cheap laugh on social media!”

He attached a clown emoji to his post.

After much backlash, Gary returned to Match Of The Day as all of the show’s regular hosts refused to confront the show in solidarity with the former footballer.

Terry is no stranger to people sharing in a public forum. During one of Chelsea’s worst seasons in recent memory, in 2015-16, he hit back at Robbie Savage for criticizing him.

“I’ve been criticized, individually, by some of the players and individuals, the players that I looked up to and played alongside,” Terry said.

I handled this on the chin: Ryu, Kara, Neville, the best I’ve ever encountered in the game. I take it on the chin. When other people talk, I probably don’t even deal with my chin.

“When players don’t have a career, they play at a really bad level in their career… Robbie Savage is one. He’s got me out a few times.”

You consider him as a football player as an individual. I’ll take it from Rios, Carraghers, and Neville. The whole day. Who else? Nah.
