Tenacious D fans have slammed Jack Black for betraying bandmate Kyle Gass after he made a joke about the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.

Gass caused controversy on Sunday night when he made a joke on stage in Sydney about the attempted assassination of the former US president.

During her show, Black brought a birthday cake for Gass and asked him to make a wish, to which he replied, “Don’t miss Trump next time.”

His comment came hours after the attempted assassination of Trump at a rally in Milwaukee, Pennsylvania, in a shooting that pierced Trump’s right ear and killed a spectator.

Fans have now slammed Black for claiming that his Tenacious D bandmate’s tasteless comments caught him off guard and he canceled the comedy band’s tour.

“The fact that Jack Black is turning on Kyle Gass really pisses me off, I’m going to have to take a long walk,” one person wrote on X.

“You’re mad at Jack Black for what Kyle Gass said. I’m mad at Jack Black for turning his back on a 30-year relationship in order to maintain his celebrity status,” another commented.

Another unimpressed fan said: “It’s not Jack Black who’s throwing Kyle Gass overboard for making a Trump joke. What an absolute coward.”

“There has to be something more behind this Tenacious D thing. You don’t end a relationship like that and ruin the crew’s livelihood over a joke. What’s tea?” one said.

“Jack Black is not to be praised. Kyle Gass was the scapegoat,” wrote another.

The School of Rock actor issued a statement Tuesday, saying he has decided to cancel the comedy band’s tour and that all creative plans are on hold, after Gass expressed that he wished the would-be Trump assassin hadn’t been missing.

Her decision comes just a month after Black, 54, delivered a speech at a star-studded fundraiser in Los Angeles for President Joe Biden, where she said “democracy was at stake” in the November election.

Democrats have been criticized for raising the political temperature in the United States by claiming that a Trump presidency would be a threat to democracy.

“What was said on Sunday’s show has left me stunned. I would never tolerate hate speech or encourage political violence in any form,” Black told DailyMail.com in a statement.

“After much consideration, I no longer believe it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour and all future creative plans are on hold. I thank the fans for their support and understanding.”

Frontier Touring has announced that it will offer refunds for all Tenacious D ticket holders.

The concert promoter confirmed on Wednesday morning that shows in Newcastle, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, Wellington and Auckland have been cancelled.

‘Frontier Touring regrets to inform that the remaining dates of Tenacious D’s tour in Australia and New Zealand have been cancelled,’ they wrote.

‘Ticket holders who purchased their tickets through authorised ticket sellers will receive a full refund. A communication will be sent to all ticket holders today with further information.’
