The PFA announced its Premier League Team of the Year on Monday, with a cast of usual suspects forming its backbone.

Understandably, Phil Foden, Erling Haaland and Virgil van Dijk have all been included in the list, but there are omissions (such as Chelsea’s Cole Palmer) which have led fans on social media to question the assessment process.

However, there is one player who has sparked debate among fans, but not for his prowess on the field.

Fans considered Kyle Walker to be the different player in this illustrious lineup of the League’s best players, due to his choice of footwear.

Fans have left comments on X highlighting the City full-back’s wardrobe choices, with one saying: “Kyle Walker should be replaced for the terrible trainers he wears.”

Another simple call to attention to the incongruous shoe lineup, saying, ‘Look at the shoes Walker is wearing!’

Walker is unlikely to be bothered: not only have sneakers been the privilege of the catwalks for more than a decade, but their place was certainly qualified by their merits.

The 34-year-old played a pivotal role in City’s League Cup-League Championship double last season and once again proved to be a defensive linchpin for Pep Guardiola’s side despite his advancing years as a player.

Phil Foden has been named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year for the first time after his impressive performances helped Manchester City win a record fourth consecutive Premier League title.

Foden was named in the squad at the annual PFA awards on Tuesday, where the star was also named PFA Player of the Year.

His inclusion followed a string of impressive performances throughout last season, where he scored 19 league goals in 27 games, including a final-day brace against West Ham to secure the title for Manchester City.

The Player of the Year award is voted for by Premier League players, with the Team of the Year made up of the most popular choices.

Foden is joined by three Manchester City team-mates, including sneaker fanatic Kyle Walker, and Golden Boot winner Erling Haaland, who earned a second successive PFA selection after scoring 27 goals last season.
