Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones cried during the rendition of the national anthem before his team played the Houston Texans in the playoffs – and fans were sure it was a good omen for the Super Bowl winners.
Cameras cut to Jones, one of the Chiefs’ key men who is back in the team after a calf problem, with tears streaming down his face at Arrowhead Stadium.
Jones also cried during the national anthem when the Chiefs won the Super Bowl in Las Vegas against the San Francisco 49ers last year.
And the Chiefs Kingdom members watching from home thought Jones’ tears were a good sign.
“Chris Jones is crying again. Chiefs by 50,” one fan wrote.
Another said: ‘Chris Jones crying during the national anthem again, you know what that means.’
A similar message read: ‘Chris Jones rip alert, hopefully a good sign for today.’
Chiefs fan account Chiefs Hive wrote: “Chris Jones shed a tear in the national anthem. If he does this, the Chiefs will be undefeated. I don’t actually know if that’s true, but it sure feels that way.’
