Angel Reese made her long-awaited return to the basketball court on Friday night, but fans who wanted to see the launch of Unrivaled were less than impressed with her outfit on opening night.
The 3×3 competition started in Miami with Reese playing in the later match with her new team, Rose Basketball Club.
The venue, Wayfair Arena in Miami, had a walkway for players to show off their gameday outfits and Reese arrived in style on opening night.
“I wear Pucci, I wear Chanel, I wear diamonds,” she is heard saying after someone asked what she was wearing.
But fans on social media were less than impressed, with some accusing her of trying too hard to fill the void left by Caitlin Clark after she opted out of the event.
“Main Character Syndrome is running amok,” one fan said in response to the footage.
Reese’s performance on Friday marked her return to basketball since undergoing wrist surgery
Another wrote: “She thinks she’s the main character but in the grand scheme of things she’s an NPC (nonplayer character).”
Another fan mocked Reese’s outfit after she said in October that she didn’t make enough money to pay her $8,000 a month rent in Chicago.
“Didn’t she complain about not being able to pay the rent?” She’s probably sponsored here but whatever,” said another fan.
Some fans appreciated Reese’s look, with one writing, “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend!”
Another positive comment said: ‘It adds 50’s glamour, I like it.’
Friday night’s appearance marks Reese’s first time on the court since her rookie WNBA season with the Chicago Sky ended early due to her wrist injury.
She required surgery and in her absence Sky failed to make the play-offs.
