Fans in shock as ‘national treasure’ Poh Ling Yeow is cryingly eliminated from MasterChef after the ‘redemption dish’ of the disaster falls flat
Fans were in shock when fan favorite Poh Ling Yeow was eliminated from MasterChef Australia: Back To Win on Sunday.
Her culurgione with half a parsley paste and truffle, brown butter and lemon sauce did not impress the jury.
Poh had called it a redemption dish – hoping to make a recipe she’d failed before.
But even at the show, the 47-year-old realized she had made a mistake.
“Sometimes I’m just so frustrated with my own personality. Like, I just get really obsessive when I get things wrong.
“And I realized I was doing so badly with Phil’s sauce. And I was like, “Oh, I can kill two birds with one stone.”
“And I just couldn’t get it up. I just didn’t do what I wanted to do, “she said.
The court didn’t impress the jury, but the elimination was emotional nonetheless – Melissa Leong called Poh and “national treasure” and admitted it was a tough decision.
Graceful in his defeat, Poh said, “It’s all I wanted it to be. I’m a risk taker and that’s what happened today, you know.
“I have finally met my downfall. But I had such a fantastic time. It was just so much fun cooking with these guys.
“And it’s really humble to be around them. It was … it was just such a fantastic experience. I enjoyed every moment. ‘
Callum Hann also had a few kind words about Poh, saying, “I think when people in this country think the word MasterChef, you’re probably the image that comes to their mind for all the wonderful things we love about you.
“I think Australia gets to see Poh’s incredible cooking skills, but what they may not necessarily see is how she is as a behind-the-scenes person, which is quite incredible, which is why I feel quite emotional.”
While she was onstage, offstage, Poh broke down in tears.
“MasterChef really made me understand how important food had to be the first time in my life, and it’s been done again. I’m just very grateful, ”she said with tears on her face.
