Fans heading to the London Stadium for the MLB World Tour can enjoy mouthwatering American snacks

Date:

Fans heading to the London stadium for the MLB World Tour this summer will be able to enjoy mouth-watering American snacks – including a TWO THOUSAND calorie ‘Boomstick’ hot dog – as baseball prepares to return to the UK in June.

  • The St. Louis Cardinals will face the Chicago Cubs in the London Series June 24-25
  • The London stadium has prepared a series of American-inspired food options for fans
  • A two-foot, 1.5kg ‘Boomstick’ hot dog will be the main offering available

Baseball returns to London next month, and while the Chicago Cubs and St Louis Cardinals prepare to hit balls for the moon and raise their throwing arms at 100mph, there will also be a few stars in the bleachers.

Weighing in at 1.5kg, packing a punch of 2,000 calories and measuring a staggering two feet in length, the ‘Boomstick’ hot dog is the main title in a series of mouth-watering dishes available at the London Series.

Designed to feed a family of four, the Boomstick is the brainchild of London Stadium head chef Bruce Deacon, aiming to beat the 3,000 sold at the last London Series in 2019.

To make the Boomstick, Deacon takes a two-foot-long sausage, slaps on a dollop of cheese sauce, then adds half a kilogram of chili for good measure. Next are the jalapenos and salsa, before being topped with sour cream and served in a custom-made container. It only takes a few minutes to assemble and, remarkably, can be polished pretty much at the same time.

“It was really popular the last time (in 2019), we had a lot of eating contests around it,” Deacon says. “We had an army guy, he managed to eat one in two and a half minutes. It’s the record.

“He needed to change his shirt afterwards, but it was pretty amazing to watch him do it. We suggest it be for two or three people, but each in their own way.

“In 2019 we sold 3,000 without people really knowing about it, so now that people know a bit more, we want to ride it and see how many we can sell.”

If hot dogs aren’t your thing, you can gorge on Boomstick nachos — also two feet long and still loaded with chili peppers, jalapenos and salsa.

Elsewhere in the halls of London Stadium, which will take three weeks to convert from football stadium to baseball stadium, fans can try a host of other American-inspired dishes.

These include the St Louis Donut Burger – two patties on a donut and sprinkled with bacon crumble, cheese, dill pickle salad and bacon mayonnaise.

Then there’s the Chicago Cheesy Brisket sandwich, which mixes corned beef brisket and American cheese with a sweet caramelized onion glaze.

And if you prefer your hot dogs British-sized, there are four different kinds, topped with everything from sweet Chicago relish and chili cheese to pico de gallo and beer mustard.

If all this leaves you a little thirsty, don’t worry: 10 new bars will be opening in the East Stand of the London Stadium to quench your thirst. And fans won’t even have to get up from their seats, as America’s baseball stadium ‘hawkers’ of fame arrive, performing their traditional duty of bringing your drinks and snacks straight to your seat for you.

More than 62,000 fans are expected for each day of this year’s London Series between fierce rivals Chicago and St Louis, four years after the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox turned the stadium into a mini home derby then that they were the first MLB teams to play in the UK.

Baseball will also return next year, with the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies as likely opponents, followed by a break to go to Paris in 2025 before returning to London Stadium in 2026.

The St. Louis Cardinals will face the Chicago Cubs in the 2023 MLB World Tour: London Series on June 24-25 at London Stadium. Tickets are available now at ticketmaster.co.uk/mlb
