Fans have defended Sabrina Carpenter after a critic labeled her the “catfish of the year.”
Hannah Pearl Davis, as well known online as Pearl, has more than 1.52 million subscribers to her controversial YouTube channel, where she often expresses her conservative views.
Hannah’s hardline views have gotten her into trouble in the past, with her previously sparking anger by claiming divorce should be illegal and noting that women should give up the right to vote.
Now the social media cynic has set her sights on Hollywood’s hottest singer of the year: Sabrina.
The Espresso hitmaker, 25, was furiously criticized by Hannah on X, formerly known as Twitter, earlier this week.
Hannah shared side-by-side photos of the singer, with the photo on the left showing Sabrina in glitz and glam this year, while the other photo was a throwback of the artist with very little makeup on.
The content creator started her shocking thread by claiming she wanted to present a “catfish of the year” award, and named a slew of stars who she thought deserved the title, including Sabrina.

‘My special thanks go to the filters, plastic surgeons and the FaceTime app that make this all possible.’
Alongside the images of Sabrina, Hannah wrote: “Next is Sabrina Carpenter.
‘A phenomenal singer and pop sensation, but underneath all the make-up she is also a mid.’
Fans were stunned by Hannah’s hateful tone and flocked to replies to defend the singer.
One person said: ‘Sabrina actually looks better without all that makeup… and you’re just a sad little person.’
Someone else wrote: ‘No, she’s prettier and prettier without makeup, I think.’
Another user commented, “Get Sabrina’s name out of your mouth!”
Someone else added: ‘No, no, no. Sabrina doesn’t need any makeup at all.’

Other notable names who felt Hannah’s wrath and were included in her catfish nominations were Sydney Sweeney and Paige Spiranac.
Despite Hannah’s Catfish of the Year nomination, Sabrina seems unstoppable at the moment, as 2024 was the most successful year of her career.
This is evident from new research from the British Phonographic Industry Female artists held the top spot on the hits list for 34 weeks, beating the previous record of 31 weeks set the year before.
This means that songs by women were number one for most of the year.
And Sabrina topped the chart for several weeks thanks to her addictive singles.
Her sixth studio album, Short n’ Sweet, was the third most popular this year.
Three of her songs – Espresso, Please Please Please and Taste – topped the chart for a combined 21 weeks.
