Spectators at Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final between Coventry were left furious after VAR ruled Coventry’s last-minute extra-time goal marginally offside.

Coventry came close to completing one of the most memorable comebacks of all time when their team came back from 3-0 down to take the tie at Wembley to extra time.

The championship team thought they had won it when Victor Torp scored the ball in the 121st minute.

However, the celebrations were short-lived as VAR intervened and deemed Haji Wright slightly offside in the build-up.

And fans couldn’t believe a moment like this was taken away by such fine margins.

Someone wrote in X: ‘Football is not about that. VAR ruined one of the best moments in FA Cup history. An insignificant offside. Give me a break. Coventry should be in the final. Absolutely pathetic.

Another wrote: ‘VAR kills all the joy of sport. Coventry were deprived of one of the greatest moments in their history because Wright’s toenail was offside.

Speaking after the match, Coventry boss Mark Robins said: “I’m bitterly disappointed, but I’m also proud.”

‘Someone told me that I don’t think any team has ever been so close to a final without getting there. We deserved to pass, we were 20 seconds away and one offside, it’s ridiculous.
