‘He often spoke of death with peace, fully prepared and willing to meet Jesus.’
Newman went on to say that his father carried his faith with him at all times.
“Living with my father, I saw firsthand how he cared for his relationship with God,” Newman wrote.
‘Almost every night he fell asleep listening to sermons and spent his last moments conversing with God.
‘Her faith was unshakeable and she found comfort in her closeness to Jesus.’
He was also recently named Christian Comedian of the Year and was set to kick off an upcoming national tour on Sunday.
Mutzie was also known for his charitable work, Newman said.
“My father was a true giver, a man whose generosity knew no bounds,” he wrote, noting that while his father was performing on Carnival cruises, he started a program “to give back to the people of Progreso, Mexico.”
“We would use the money from their CD to buy pizzas and distribute them to the children at the schools, creating moments of joy that were really special,” Newman explained. “Each guest who joined us could also feel the joy of giving, and it was truly an amazing experience every time.”
When Mutzie wasn’t performing on cruise ships, Newman said he donated all sales of his CDs and DVDs to those in need: providing Christmas gifts to children, helping the homeless or supporting shelters.
“He loved making people happy and showing them how Jesus calls us to live: to love one another,” the grieving son wrote. “He lived by the verse, ‘Whoever does anything to the least of these, does it to me.'”
Mutzie’s children have set up an online fundraiser to help pay for funeral expenses.
They said Mutzie was a very charitable man, who started a program to help the people of Progreso, Mexico, while working as a comedian on Carnival cruise ships.
But Mutzie was never really rich, Newman said.
“Our father went through life with very little, not because he had to, but because he decided to give everything he had to others,” he explained.
“He always said, ‘I have money for my bills and food, that’s all I need.’”
As such, Mutzie did not have a life insurance policy and knew he would not be able to leave much to his children, who are now raising money to ensure their father’s wishes for his funeral are fulfilled.
Any additional funds Newman and her sister, Rachel, receive will be donated to continue Mutzie’s tradition of blessing children with Christmas gifts this season.
As of Sunday evening, the online fundraiser for children had garnered more than $9,000 in donations.
