The family of Rachel Morin, allegedly raped and murdered by an illegal migrant, slammed Kamala Harris after she admitted the death “should not have happened.”
The vice president made these statements during an interview with Fox News, where she was questioned about the impact of her administration’s immigration policies.
Journalist Bret Baier brought to light the cases of Jocelyn Nungaray, 12, Laken Riley, 22, and Morin, 37, who were allegedly murdered by illegal immigrants.
Harris said there was “no question” the cases were tragic, but argued that Democrats had tried to pass a border security bill that was defeated by the GOP.
But her explanation was rejected by Morin’s mother, Patty Morin, who noted that her daughter’s death occurred long before the bill went into effect.

Morin’s naked and battered body was found on a hiking trail in Maryland last year, a day after the mother of six disappeared.
Víctor Martínez Hernández, 23, is accused of rape and murder. The migrant born in El Salvador entered the country in February 2023 after allegedly murdering another woman in his country of origin.
He is also accused of attacking a nine-year-old girl and her mother in Los Angeles in March 2023, before Morin’s murder.
Morin’s mother, Patty Morin, said her daughter’s death could have been prevented if there had been tighter security at the border, which could have picked up an outstanding arrest warrant for the suspect in connection with another crime.
Harris claimed in the interview that tragedies like Morin’s could have been avoided if Democrats’ border security bill had been able to pass.
Morin was reported missing by her boyfriend Richard Tobin (pictured together) after she went for a run. Her naked and battered body was later found on a hiking trail in Maryland.
Baier asked Harris if she regrets reversing the Trump administration’s policy that required illegal immigrants to be detained during the deportation process.
The vice president refused to get involved in the issue and instead accused Trump and his allies of hindering Democratic efforts to address the border crisis and allowing him to “run on an issue” in the next election.
But Morin’s family said they viewed his comments as an “implicit admission” that Morin’s death could have been prevented.
