Family of US swimming champion, 42, found dead at her US Virgin Islands home are ‘devastated’

The family of a New Hampshire swim star has said they are “devastated” by her death after she was found unresponsive in her US Virgin Islands home.

Jamie Cail, 42, was found unconscious on February 21 by her boyfriend, and police have launched a criminal investigation.

Her partner, who has not been identified by authorities, left a bar around midnight and returned home, where he found her lying on the floor.

They described her as an “incredible human and friend,” while writing in a separate post about Cali that they were “going to find out the truth.”

The Virgin Islands Police Department did not immediately respond to DailyMail.com’s request for comment.

After being found, Cail was taken to the Myrah Keating-Smith Community Health Center by her boyfriend and a friend.

Once at the hospital, paramedics performed CPR and called the police, but Cail “succumbed to his ailment,” according to the USVI Police.

Police said the Criminal Investigation Bureau is investigating Cail’s death after authorities were notified of a ‘dead on arrival’ at 2:40 a.m.

Cail, from Claremont, New Hampshire, was a star swimmer who competed in the US in her youth.

He won several high school state championships in Huntington Beach, where he moved to train with the Golden West Swim Club in California.

Cail was a member of Team USA at the 1997 Pan Pacific Championships when she was just a teenager, where she won a gold medal in the team’s 800-meter freestyle relay, according to Swim I swim.

He won a silver medal at the 1998-1999 FINA Swimming World Cup in Brazil in the 800-meter freestyle as a member of the United States Swimming National B Team.

In 1996-1997, with Bolles, Cail was named to the top ten Top 16 lists published by United States Swimming and swam out of college at USC.

In a statement, the VIPD said: “On Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at approximately 12:08 am, a man left a local bar to check on his girlfriend at her residence. Upon his arrival, he discovered his girlfriend on the ground.

“With the help of a friend, the man was able to get the woman into a nearby vehicle and transported her to the Myrah Keating-Smith Clinic.

“Once at the clinic, CPR was performed and 911 notified, however, the woman succumbed to her ailment.

‘This case is currently being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.’
