A family was shocked after finding three giant wasp nests the size of ‘space hoppers’ hanging in the attic of their new home.
Eve Ault, 25, and her family moved into the Macclesfield home about five months ago, but didn’t go into the penthouse until recently after finding a new entrance.
They were left in disbelief as they stuck their heads out of the narrow ceiling space, only to find three giant wasp nests lurking in the wooden rafters.
Ms Ault claimed the nests were at least the size of a child’s space hopper, or about 70cm wide, and would cost hundreds of pounds to remove.
Ms Ault, an online business owner, said: ‘I live with my family in the family home. Just the other week we went into the attic for the first time, we hadn’t gone in yet.

When the family removed the nests by hand, they found several dead insects inside.

“We had been here five months, none of us had been there, as it is through a small hole.
We didn’t know we could get in that way where we did.
It was a bit of a shock. There were these nests that were at least the size of a space hopper, three of them. They took up a large part of the room since it is a very small space.
The other owners of the house did not tell us before. The real estate agents didn’t say, I don’t think they knew.
“It’s such a small space that we don’t really use it for anything.”
The family, who lives in a three-story Victorian house, defied their fears and removed the nests by hand, only to find several dead insects inside.
Ms Ault added: “Most likely it was a home that wasps lived in and then moved on.”
We just disarmed it and found many dead and none alive.
“It was about two weeks ago, we could have paid a lot to have them moved professionally, but my mom and sister came in and moved it.
If not, it would have cost at least a few hundred pounds to get them out.
