Families are forced to flee their homes because explosives are found in Sydney
Families in a suburb of Sydney were forced to flee their homes on Friday afternoon after a live explosive was found.
An active mortar round was found on the outskirts of North Bondi, where the police were called and an exclusion zone of 300 m was established around the property.
The grenade was then transported to a nearby golf club where a ditch was dug, sandbags were caught on the device and it was exploded just before 6 p.m.
The mortar was found on Friday at noon by a construction team in Rainer Avenue Bondi.
It was then transported to Rose Bay where a controlled explosion took place.
More to come.
