Fall Guys update fixes PS5 crossplay and bean animations on Switch

After going free-to-play less than a week ago, Autumn boys gets its first major update to fix various technical and visual issues across all platforms. Developer Mediatonic released the update early this morning, fixing a number of notable issues, including players using the PlayStation 5 version not being able to send or receive party invites from friends on other platforms such as Xbox, PC or Nintendo Switch. . (Previously, they were told to fix the problem by re-downloading the PS4 version from Autumn guys.

In addition to overcoming that hurdle – an important one for a game best played with a few bean friends – the Nintendo Switch version update fixes flawed character animations. Now other characters no longer look like stop-motion animations or bad GIFs floating eerily across the level. Mediatonic detailed all of the included fixes in a thread on its official Twitter page.

autumn boys changing to a free-to-play model definitely breathes new life into the game. It became the family-friendly darling of the pandemic when it was temporarily free on PlayStation Plus, though its popularity and player count declined over time. Now, after being acquired by Epic Games and moving to a free-to-play model, the game has reached a player count of 20 million in the first two days of the relaunch.

Players who have been playing for a long time – of which I am one – may feel bugs and glitches are nothing new, although Mediatonic is catching up on critical ones in its first week. As someone who has often kept up with friends while in bean form during the pandemic, I am most relieved to see the visual fixes on the Switch. When I first booted up the handheld version this weekend, it was shocking to see other characters barely animated. I know Autumn boys leans into the cringey vibes and meta-foolishness at times, but the joke gets old quickly when it feels like you’re playing a broken game.

A free-to-play game has to act quickly to solve such problems, otherwise the public can quickly switch to more reliable alternatives and forget about it. Now if only all the remaining crowns were converted into much more useful Show-Bucks currency instead of the finicky Kudos rewards usually used on base items.
