‘Fake socialite’ Suzan Mutesi caught another embarrassing Photoshop fail

Date:

‘Fake’ influencer Suzan Mutesi has been caught in another embarrassing Photoshop fail.

The 36-year-old socialite, who is accused of buying a large chunk of her 1.2 million Instagram followers, raised her eyebrows this week after taking style inspiration from reality star Kylie Jenner.

She posted a photo at a fashion event showing her wearing the same lion stole on her shoulder that Kylie wore at Paris fashion week earlier this year.

However, it looks like Mutesi photoshopped the image, as she was pictured at the event wearing the stole – it didn’t have a lion’s head on it like Kylie’s, though.

In the photo she posted to Instagram, the social climbing star can be seen in an off-the-shoulder print dress and on her shoulder is the identical lion head that Kylie wore.

Influencer updates saw the Photoshop error and also called Mutesi because in FaceTune her face appeared.

The “sham socialite” has often been berated for photoshopping her snaps to make her lifestyle appear more luxurious than it actually is.

Last year, a contestant from The Challenge posted a photo of herself posing next to a private jet on the tarmac, ready for takeoff.

Still, there are clear signs that the plane was actually parked in a hangar.

The ‘sky’ was clearly photoshopped into the background, while the reflection of the hangar lights showed in the plane’s reflection.

In another photo, taken on the plane, the hangar was clearly visible outside the window.

‘Outside and on the plane. But was the plane outside or inside?’ Influencer Updates captioned the post.

In December 2021, Mutesi was called out by Celeb Spellcheck for clumsily editing herself into stock photos of a seaplane.

An image posted by Mutesi in December 2020 shows her on top of the plane, with her hand barely touching the side of the plane due to the shoddy assembly.

The water was visibly hazy around Mutesi’s legs, suggesting it had been smeared with an editing tool.

Celeb Spellcheck also shared another photo of another model standing in front of a remarkably similar background, in an attempt to prove that Mutesi’s post was edited.

Fans were quick to respond to the image, with one writing, “Fairly impressed with the photoshop skills,” while another added, “Wow, that’s a terrible job.”

“What a failure!” one wrote, the other said, “Look at the hand on the plane.”

“This (seaplane) post was posted 12 months ago in December 2020. But I took that photo in 2019. There’s nothing wrong with dreaming,” Mutesi said.

“And that’s what I do for myself and my followers,” she continued. “Trying to inspire them to pursue their dreams and make them come true.”

But when Mutesi spoke to Daily Mail Australia at the time, she denied editing her images at all, saying, “If it was (photoshopped) I wouldn’t have a problem owning it.”

Mutesi shared another suspicious-looking photo of herself in front of a plane in September 2020, to which a fan asked her, “What app do you use to do this?” Please share I need to edit a photo background hehe.’

In the photo in question, Mutesi was standing in front of the plane next to a travel bag, which cast no shadow and stood at an odd angle on the floor.

‘It’s a real location treasure! I didn’t have to edit the background! We were really lucky with the plants’, Mutesi responded.

The commentator replied back, “Huh? This photo has been edited honey – you can see haha what plants?’

Mutesi then called the commenter “shady” for asking the question.

The fan asked why it was shady, insisting he was “just asking a question,” adding, “I wanted to use it, but it seems too obvious.”

Mutesi didn’t reveal anything and replied, ‘I know honey, I was teasing! You know that.’

Mutesi, who has been a fixture of Sydney’s social scene for the past four years, is also accused of buying her 1.2 million Instagram followers.

Sydney stylist Jamie Azzopardi accused the self-described “award-winning author” of inflating her popularity with “fake” Instagram followers to gain access to red carpet events, sponsorships and media appearances.

After months of whispers about her credibility, Azzopardi, who has known Mutesi for years, opened the floodgates by giving a telling interview about her to the So dramatic podcast last November.

“It fascinates me how she went from 200,000 followers pre-lockdown to 1.2 million and is on a reality TV show where she’s a representative of influencers,” he said.

According to Azzopardi, publicly available statistics at the time on Social Blade, a website that tracks analytics for social media platforms, prove she “bought 75,000 followers” before Sydney Fashion Week — and “challenged” Mutesi to prove him wrong.

He also alleged that Mutesi bought automated comments, views and likes in an attempt to match her Instagram engagement with her inflated follower count, a claim she denied to Daily Mail Australia.

“Just give your insights and I’ll stop talking. I admit I’m wrong, I don’t do it often, but I will publicly say I was wrong,” Azzopardi told the podcast.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia at the time, an emotional Mutesi denied buying followers, saying her numbers were so high because she’s a “go-getter.”

She rejected all of Azzopardi’s claims and denied that she was misleading brands with her ratings.

The Sydney-based influencer, who describes herself as an ‘Actor and Best Award Winning Author’ on Instagram, said she ‘works hard’ and that her large following is because she’s been around for a long time.

‘Before I moved to Australia I worked as a fashion designer. I’ve traveled the world. I have articles in Nigeria. I also sing,” Mutesi explained at the time.

“I have collaborated internationally with international artists, not just Africa.

“It saddens me to hear such words. These ridiculous claims are sad and pathetic and very childish,” Mutesi said of Azzopardi’s accusations.

Mutesi’s manager at Sydney public relations firm Markson Sparks also issued a statement at the time denying the “phony socialite” claims.

“Suzan stars in a major national reality show The Challenge on Channel 10 and has had a great career over the past 12 years,” they told Daily Mail Australia.

Suzan starred alongside Jane Seymour in Ruby’s Choice earlier this year, she is an author with a second book due out in 2023. She is also a fashion influencer, model and is extremely popular on social media.

“Suzan has a huge fan base and I am very proud to be her manager. Thank you for your recent enquiry. It’s #fakenews.’

Mutesi, originally from Uganda, moved to Australia for high school before completing a Bachelor of Design majoring in fashion.

She has worked in fashion alongside her acting career, landing small roles in films such as 2022’s Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings.

While Daily Mail Australia isn't suggesting that Mutesi (pictured in August) paid for her followers, a HypeAuditor report shows that only 45.25 per cent of her followers look 'authentic'.
