Baxter littered his social media pages with pictures of his children, calling them “his world” just weeks before he would burn them alive.

It comes as a brave builder who works near the murder-suicide, spoke of his desperate attempts to save the lives of the children.

Together with his brother, the worker sprinted to the scene of Wednesday’s massacre and tried to free the children while their car was flooded with flames.

He burned his hand in an attempt to pry the car door open to save the children after he had seen their heavily burned mother cry out for help.

“Me and my brother were working here, he saw some smoke and started running. I followed of course and screamed at the boys, “he told Sunrise.

“When we got there, the car is on fire and there is a lady on the floor yelling and a guy on fire there.

JANUARY, 2020

Queensland Police officers are summoned for an incident involving family violence involving the couple.

WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 19 – EARLY MORNING:

Ex-NRL star Rowan Charles Baxter, 42, is seen filling a jerry can with fuel at a local gas station.

8:20 am:

Baxter dives into the white Kia Sportage of his estranged wife Hannah Clarke as she prepared to drop off the school in Raven Street, Camp Hill, a rich suburb of Brisbane.

He extinguishes Mrs. Clarke, 31, and their three children – Aaliyah, six, Laianah, four, and Trey, three – in gas and turns on the car.

Baxter takes a knife from the SUV and stabs himself in the chest.

He tries to prevent neighbors from saving his wife and children before he dies on the street.

Mrs. Clarke escapes the burning car and shouts, “He poured gas on me.”

Startled witnesses see her skin peel off her body.

A heroic neighbor washes her down in an attempt to save her life and suffers from burns herself.

She is being brought to Royal Brisbane and the Women’s Hospital in a critical condition.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT:

Mrs. Clarke dies in the hospital because of the terrible burns she sustained during the suicide of the four-fold murder.

WHO WAS ROWAN BAXTER?

Rowan Baxter was a former NRL player who once had a contract with the New Zealand Warriors.

He was a member of the President’s Selection 2005 pre-season team and spent the last 20 years of his life in the sports and fitness industry.

He grew up in Tauranga, on the North Island of New Zealand, before moving to Australia.

Baxter lived in Brisbane alongside his wife, Hannah, and three children until as recently as late last year, when the couple broke up.

The 42-year-old opened a gym, Intergr8 and CrossFit SMC in Capalaba, with his wife, but the couple closed it when they worked through their split.

Former Brisbane Broncos players Sam Thaiday and Matt Gillett are known to train in the gym.

The company website of the former athlete described him as an experienced body weight trainer for NRL and AFL teams.

Unsuspecting family and friends believed he was a loving and dedicated father.
