Facebook users now have an easier time poking each other.

The social media platform brought back the Poke button to its website design so that it is more visible online or in an app.

According to Business InsiderMeta made a design change in early 2024 that made the Poke button more visible.

The new design appears on the button next to any name searched by a Facebook user on the social media platform.

Gen Z Facebook users have given a positive response to the new design.

Following Meta changes, Facebook Pokes increased by 1,300%.

Poke is a well-known feature on the social media platform and was even featured on the website when it was called TheFacebook.

“When we created the Poke, we thought it would be cool to have a feature without a specific purpose,” Facebook explained its FAQ page in 2007.

“People interpret poke in different ways and we encourage you to find your own meanings.”

Poking has become the Facebook feature that sparked Poke wars between users and “light” flirting.

After losing popularity, the Poking button mysteriously disappeared sometime after 2014.

The Poke button almost made a comeback in 2017, but alas, it remained hidden somewhere within the social media platform.

Now anyone, including Gen Zers, can access the Poke Button by simply searching “pokes” on Facebook or facebook.com/pokes.

The comeback officials were looking for in 2017 is now here, thanks in part to its popularity with Gen Z.

According to Meta, more than 50% of new Pokes are created by users aged 18 to 29.

However, a 2013 study published by Set social media on fire showed that out of an average of 65% of all Facebook users who use the app frequently, only 42% of Gen Z use it to the same extent.

Data from the October 2023 study also showed that Facebook is the fourth most popular social media platform among Gen Z.

Gen Z is responding well to Facebook’s new design, but it’s unclear whether the Poke button will be enough for the social media platform to gain popularity.
