FA Cup: Chelsea want revenge, Liverpool are on a roll – Sportsmail experts predict Saturday’s final

Chelsea could turn the odds with revenge in mind in the FA Cup final, but Liverpool are on a roll and have a ruthless lead: Sportsmail pundits predict Saturday’s big game.

  • Liverpool take on Chelsea in a delightful FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday.
  • They were well matched in the League Cup final, the Reds winning 11-10 on penalties.
  • Sportsmail experts make their predictions ahead of the tournament showpiece

Liverpool take on Chelsea in a delightful FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, in a repeat of February’s League Cup final.

The two teams were so evenly matched that day that Blues goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga missed a penalty kick to split them as Jurgen Klopp’s men triumphed 11-10 on penalties to lift their first trophy – and they hope it won’t be the Last this season.

So six of Sportsmail’s experts run the rule on both sides and make their predictions before the tournament finale.

IAN LADYMAN – CHELSEA 2 LIVERPOOL 0

The revenge of a highly motivated Chelsea against a Liverpool with their minds elsewhere. February’s Carabao Cup final went Liverpool’s way, but Chelsea could have won if they had taken their chances.

They have the cunning to find a way through Liverpool’s back line and this will be their day. Mason Mount to be highlighted and even a goal for Romelu Lukaku.

CHRIS SUTTON – CHELSEA 1 LIVERPOOL 2

Their final Carabao Cup encounter went all the way, ending in that dramatic shootout in which Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga took the 22nd penalty (has anyone seen if the ball has landed yet?).

But Jurgen Klopp’s men can get the job done in 90 minutes today and avoid those extra 30 minutes – save your legs for the Champions League final!

Six Sportsmail pundits have predicted the outcome, with two backing the Blues to emerge victorious.

MARTIN KEOWN – CHELSEA 0 LIVERPOOL 1

These sides drew 1-1 in August. Then 2-2 in January. Then 0-0 in February, with Liverpool overcoming the Carabao Cup final on penalties.

I look forward to another close contest between two great teams and managers, and hope Chelsea upset Liverpool on the counterattack, before Jurgen Klopp and his players emerge as winners at Wembley on Saturday night.

DOMINIC KING – CHELSEA 1 LIVERPOOL 2 (AET)

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool lifts the FA Cup by beating it in extra time.

But equally, I wouldn’t be surprised if the result was the other way around, in favor of Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea. It’s almost too tight to decide between these two fantastic teams.

But Chris Sutton, Martin Keown, Dominic King and Kieran Gill have backed the Reds to win it.

MATT BARLOW – CHELSEA 2 LIVERPOOL 1

For all their inconsistencies, Chelsea can still put together a big performance on a big stage.

They have plenty of quality, the clarity of focus of the last chance and the motivation of the rematch. Expect it to be tight, but Thomas Tuchel can upset the odds.

KIERAN GILL – CHELSEA 0 LIVERPOOL 3

Liverpool to score early, Chelsea to go chasing the game and throw players forward in search of an equalizer, Thomas Tuchel’s side to be punished.

A comfortable victory for Jurgen Klopp’s men, with a couple of goals in the last minutes to seal the victory.
