Laurent Mekies, Ferrari’s sporting director, will replace Franz Tost as AlphaTauri’s team boss in Formula 1 – as part of a major restructuring of the team’s management.
AlphaTauri has announced that Tost will step down as team boss at the end of the 2023 season. Mekies is set to return to the Italy side in his place – and will join the team at an undisclosed date.
Additionally, former FIA Executive Director Peter Bayer will join AlphaTauri as CEO later in the season, overseeing the team’s strategic direction across its two bases in Italy and the UK.
Tost has been in charge of the team since 2006. He was appointed by Red Bull GmbH after they completed the takeover of the Minardi team in late 2005.
