Felipe Massa believes Mick Schumacher’s last name is a ‘burden’, with the Brazilian claiming the rookie’s bond with Formula 1 legend and father Michael is putting an ‘extremely high’ pressure on him.
As the son of seven-time world champion Schumacher, all eyes were on the young Haas driver during his rookie season in Formula 1. The 22-year-old raced under his mother’s maiden name but has since taken his father’s surname.
However, Schumacher Jr has failed to take a single point this season and with two races to go it is almost destined to remain at the bottom of the drivers’ standings with team-mate Nikita Mazepin.

Schumacher Jr’s problems this season have been mitigated by the poor performance of his Haas car, which is comfortably the slowest on the grid, while Mazepin’s erratic driving has made the German less critical of fans and pundits.
The 22-year-old has ambitions to move up the pecking order and race for Ferrari one day – as his father did – where he will be alongside a higher-quality teammate and his showings will be more sharply evaluated.
And former Scuderia driver Massa says Schumacher’s last name is a “burden” and Formula 1 fans “expect things he can never deliver” due to his car’s lack of speed in his debut campaign.

Former Ferrari driver Massa says pressure is ‘extremely high’ on newcomer
“In general, the Schumacher name is a burden for Mick,” Massa . said Die Welt.
“It helps him to get sponsors and he gets a lot of support. But people expect things that he can never deliver. The pressure is extremely high.
“De Haas is the worst car in Formula 1, he doesn’t have the best teammate – if he had someone with more experience he could measure himself much better,” explains Massa.
“We will have to wait until he has a better car and a better teammate.”
Schumacher Jr will stay with Haas next season alongside Mazepin, where it is hoped they will be more competitive with the introduction of new regulations.
