Ernst & Young (EY) has appointed its first female boss in the UK.

Anna Anthony will take up the role of UK and Ireland regional managing partner of the big four accountants on January 1, leaving her in charge of more than 20,000 employees.

That will make her one of the most senior executives in Britain.

Anthony, who has been a partner at EY for more than 16 years, said: “Leading a business of our size, scale and influence is a privilege and an honour.

Hywel Ball, EY UK Chair, added: “Anna is an exceptional leader, with a breadth and depth of experience that makes her an excellent choice as our next regional managing partner.”
