The shocking incident saw the man, dressed in a gray t-shirt and black trousers, run after an officer on a quiet residential street while brandishing the large weapon.

He was heard shouting as he ran in the middle of Glasgow Road in Paisley, Renfrewshire, this afternoon.

A silver police vehicle also crashed into a wall after the chase, leaving two officers injured and requiring medical attention.

In a second video, officers restrained the individual on a sidewalk with the help of the public.

A statement from Police Scotland: “At around 1pm on Monday 6 May 2024, a disturbance involving a weapon occurred following a collision between a car and a parked police vehicle on Glasgow Road in Paisley.

“There is no further risk to the public and officers remain at the scene while investigations are carried out.

‘Glasgow Road is closed between Buchlyvie Road and Allanton Avenue. Drivers are asked to avoid the area and use an alternative route.
