A skier enjoyed the “irony” of seeing a parking ticket stuck to an unmarked police car at a popular ski resort.
Mick Parker was visiting Perisher in the Snowy Mountains of New South Wales when he spotted the ticket taped to the windscreen of a vehicle, along with a police cap on the dashboard in an otherwise normal parking spot.
The car also had subtle lights and markings that identified it as an unmarked police vehicle.
NSW Police have since confirmed it was an unmarked police car and they are contesting the fine because the vehicle was there “for an operational reason”.
The car was parked in the same spot where Mr Parker said he once received a $100 ticket.
“There’s no way you could have been there and written the ticket without knowing it was a police car,” Parker said. Yahoo News.
An eagle-eyed skier noticed a parking ticket on an unmarked police car, where a cap had been left as a not-so-subtle sign that it was no ordinary civilian vehicle.
Mr Parker speculated that the officer had gone skiing for the day and hoped the distinctive dashboard cover would deter drivers from writing tickets, a situation he found “very amusing”.
He had little sympathy for the ticketed officer, claiming that the police in the area were… ‘More than harsh’ on the car’s defects.
“The police are absolutely ridiculous there… they sit there and stop every four-wheel drive vehicle and call them out for having wheels,” Parker said.
A NSW Police spokesman confirmed the vehicle belonged to them but said it was “in service” and that was why they were seeking an exemption from the fine.
New South Wales Police have indicated they will challenge the parking fine.
“NSWPF understands the unmarked police vehicle was parked at a resort on Kosciuszko Road, Perisher Valley, on Thursday,” the spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia.
The vehicle was there for operational reasons and police are in contact with the relevant area to obtain an exemption.
