Brooke’s character, Lana, also has to deal with seeing her college ex, played by Benjamin Bratt, who in real life used to have an affair with Julia Roberts but is now married to Bond girl Talisa Soto, and is best known for appearing on Law & Order.

The film was shot in Thailand over six weeks and will be released on May 9.

Brooke plays Lana, a woman who travels to the Southeast Asian kingdom when her daughter announces that she will marry her boyfriend, played by Sean Teale, there in a month.
The drama surrounding the hasty nuptials is further complicated when Lana discovers that her future son-in-law is a descendant of the man who broke her heart decades ago (Bratt).
Shields, who also serves as executive producer and spoke about the project in People.
Bratt, 60, plays her former flame and the actress said it’s “pretty easy to be a love interest” for her co-star.
Chad Michael Murray, 42, seems like a romantic rival for Lana’s affections.
Also starring in the film are Rachael Harris (Suits), Michael McDonald (MADtv), Wilson Cruz (My So-Called Life), Tasneem Roc (The Bureau of Magical Things) and Dalip Sondhi (Frayed).

Shields said she was happy to take on the project and praised director Mark Waters and Netflix original films director Christina Rogers.
‘(Christina has) been the champion of pushing and supporting these stories so that women over 40 can be in a romantic comedy, that’s not all,’ she said.
‘Yes, we focus on young, beautiful, fresh love, and we want that, but she doesn’t overlook my demographic.
“And having that wish fulfilled for another chance at love and all that.”
Cosgrove, who said she has a good relationship with her own mother, enjoyed working with the mother of two who shares daughters Rowan, 20, and Grier, 17, with Henchy.

During the six-week shoot in Thailand, Shields said the cast bonded over dance lessons and pickleball practice. “We had a lot of pickleball practice, so all of our free time was spent going to dance rehearsals, learning or practicing pickleball.”
“Brooke is really warm and caring, and she’s the kind of person that, even if you’ve only talked to her for an hour, you feel like you’ve known her for a long time, she’s really warm, a first.” the iCarly star said.
The model said the cast bonded over dance lessons and pickleball practice.
“We had a lot of dance rehearsals on our days off and ended up training together,” the actress revealed.
“Then we had a lot of pickleball practice, so we spent all of our free time going to dance rehearsals, learning or practicing pickleball.”
“It was like we could do it all together and laugh together through the whole process,” he explained.
Mother of the Bride premieres Mother’s Day weekend.
