A pregnant expectant mother has revealed that her husband wants to name their unborn child Cube – while admitting she thinks it’s the ‘stupidest name ever’.
The unnamed woman, believed to be from the US, went to Reddit this week to share her horror at her husband’s name suggestion, explaining that he and his parents are all “ math geniuses ” and that he’s a mathematician want to add reference in their baby’s chosen nickname.
But although she initially thought the idea was ‘cute and funny’, her positive feelings about the idea soon turned to horror when her husband revealed that he wanted to name their child after a Rubik’s Cube.

Not today: The unnamed woman shared her disgust at his suggestion and admitted she told him it’s the ‘stupidest name ever’
“My husband and I are expecting our first child – a boy – in a few months,” the woman wrote in the Am I the A ** hole thread on Reddit.
“My husband and his parents are all math geniuses and wanted his name to contain a math reference. I thought it was a fun and funny idea. ‘
She further explained that both she and her husband had come up with some ideas for names, with the expectant mother revealing that she liked a range of monikers, including Dylan, Jared, and Loren.
It was then that her husband dropped the bomb – or the cube, as it were.
“My husband was like,” Um, yes. I thought of Cube. Like Rubik’s Cube. I thought he was joking, but he meant it. ‘
The woman admitted that she quickly told her husband what she thought of his suggestion and wrote in her Reddit post, “I told him that was the stupidest name ever.
Support: Dozens of Reddit users have responded to her to agree to her description of the name
“He said I should consider it ‘cute’. I told him I’d rather call him Sweater for Cube. ‘
Unsurprisingly, the woman’s fellow Reddit users quickly jumped to her defense, with almost everyone replying that she’s definitely ‘not the a ** hole’ in this situation – and many agreed with her wholeheartedly.
“Who calls their children’s cube, what a blockhead,” answered one, while another joined in, “You have to travel to the four corners of the world to find a stupid name.”
A Redditor also pointed out that Cube isn’t a particularly witty or clever math reference, noting that they thought the man and his “ math genius ” parents might have suggested naming the child after a famous mathematician.
“I also die because she says her husband and parents are math geniuses, I thought they’d come up with a name similar to a niche math reference or maybe a math math reference. But then they just thought … Cube, ‘the person wrote.
Someone else told the original poster that she should be at least a little bit lucky that her husband didn’t take a page out of Tesla founder Elon Musk’s book and suggested a name that can’t be pronounced.
It could be worse! A Redditor told her she was lucky that her husband hadn’t suggested a name like X Æ A-12, the name Elon Musk and Grimes gave to their newborn son
“Cube is definitely pronounceable,” it wrote. “Elon Musk [named] its child a weird formula like name that cannot be pronounced without a code. ‘
Billionaire Musk and his girlfriend Grimes welcomed their first child, a son, last month, and caused much controversy when they revealed they named their son X Æ A-12.
According to the couple, each element of their child’s name means something different: X is ‘the unknown variable’, Æ stands for the elven spelling of Ai van Grimes, which stands for love and artificial intelligence, and A-12 is inspired by the Archangel 12, the ‘predecessor of the SR-71’, which Musk describes as ‘the coolest airplane ever’.
Interestingly, not even his parents can agree on how to pronounce the name of X Æ A-12.
While Grimes said the bizarre nickname translates to ‘Ex Ash A Twelve,’ Musk claimed it should be said, ‘Ex Ash Archangel Twelve.’
The pair actually had to change the spelling of the name for their son’s birth certificate to abide by California law – with Grimes explaining that they replaced the numbers in the name with Roman numbers to say: X AE A-Xii .
She added that they call their son ‘Little X’ for short.
