IKEA has launched a handy new AI-powered tool in Australia to make it easier for customers to redecorate or style their home.

The mixed reality experience is easy to use and will help customers get their creative ideas flowing without the need to move any of their furniture.

Using the feature in the IKEA ‘Kreativ’ section of the app or website, customers can scan their living space, delete some or all existing items and choose from hundreds of IKEA products to try different styles.

Alternatively, buyers also have the option to start over and design from scratch with over 50 interactive pre-loaded showroom varieties.

Simply download the IKEA app or use the website and then scroll down to the “Kreativ” section to get started. Customers can scan existing rooms in their home to decorate or use one of the 50 showroom options available.

The latest technology uses cutting-edge visual AI, similar to that used in autonomous vehicles, to drive a 3D model reconstruction of real home spaces.

Christine Gough, interior design lead at IKEA Australia, is excited for customers to use the new tool for themselves.

“IKEA Kreativ democratizes home design and puts design in the hands of many people, which I think is a beautiful thing,” Christine told FEMAIL.

‘The tool can be used anywhere and at any time: you can shop there or come to the store and see the products in person after using it. It’s an incredible opportunity for our clients to have that ability.

“Another thing I love is that you can save your designs and try different things.”

How to use the new IKEA AI feature:

1. Download the IKEA app and register, or use the IKEA website

2. Scroll down to the IKEA ‘Kreativ’ section.

3. Select a showroom to design or scan a room in your home.

4. If you scan a room, follow the prompts to take photos of the room.

5. After the setting is completed, click “design this room” and enjoy the function.

6. Save the design for later or add the products to your checkout to purchase.

IKEA is investing heavily in digital technologies and acquired Geomagical Labs, a Silicon Valley artificial intelligence company that specializes in photorealistic virtual and mixed reality, to bring this experience to its customers.

Giovanni Rutigliano, chief digital officer at IKEA Australia, said: “This is a significant investment for IKEA in cutting-edge digital AI technology that is market-leading for a home furnishings retailer in Australia.

‘IKEA Kreativ is part of our ambition to create a seamless omnichannel experience for our customers, so they can interact and shop with IKEA how, when and where they want.

“With the addition of Kreativ to the IKEA app, we offer our customers the opportunity to design and purchase products with confidence right from their mobile device.”
