Katherine Ryan has revealed the advice she gave her teenage daughter to combat sexual harassment.
The 40-year-old comedian has been praised in recent days after it emerged she confronted Russell Brand on camera in 2018 over allegations he sexually assaulted women – which he denied with fervor.
Mark, 48 years old, was the subject of complaints from a number of women accusing him of abusive and predatory behaviorincluding rape, sexual assault and psychological violence, between 2006 and 2013.

In an exclusive interview with MailOnline last week, conducted before the allegations against Brand came to light, Ryan revealed how she prepared her daughter to deal with any incidents of harassment.

Speaking to MailOnline about how she handled the incident moving forward, she explained: ‘It’s an ongoing, age-appropriate conversation.
“Violette is very conscious, she comes from a very opinionated family. My mother talks about this stuff even more than I do, if you can believe it.
“I think my mother is from the generation where catcalls and unwanted attention were much more prevalent than today, believe it or not. It’s better now than how my mother describes it.
“But I think the whole message in talking about this experience to Violet and other young people or whoever is out is that there are a lot of people who will also do protection.”
Offering advice to any young girl in a similar situation, Ryan revealed: “If you ever feel uncomfortable, you go to a woman my age and say ‘mum, this guy makes me feel weird ” and I will automatically defend her. for you and be your “mom”.
“It seemed like every time Violet and her 16-year-old cousin came back from town, they told a different story.
“It really surprised me that it was every day but, you know, something positive came out of it.
“I just told him, ‘I’m not going to stop you from living your life and going out, I know you’re getting old.’
“That was a bit of a wake-up call for me, but just approach a woman my age (if you’re ever uncomfortable). There are many women like me who will go to prison for you!’
