She has risen! Exciting moment, a female MOOSE is pulled from a frozen lake in Alaska on Easter Sunday

  • Alaska troopers, with the help of local neighbors, rescued a moose from the frozen Chena River
  • Footage of the incident shows a group of six men tossing a rope around the moose and rescuing them from the broken ice
  • Although the ‘tired and cold’ soldiers said in a Facebook post the moose made a full recovery from the ordeal and was able to stand unaided.

Alaska State Troopers and heroic neighbors rescued a female moose from the freezing cold waters of the Chena River after she fell through a thaw on Easter Sunday.

The footage shows a group of six men tying a rope around the water-covered creature and hauling it to safety by the river that flows west from the White Mountains into the Tanana River near the city of Fairbanks.

Although the moose looked ‘tired and cold’, state troopers posted on Facebook that she had made a full recovery and was able to stand on her own – albeit with huge chunks of ice on her nose.

According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, there are an estimated 16,000 moose in the area and the population target, prior to hunting season, is 10,000 to 12,000 animals.

said Gary Nisi, who was among those who rescued moose KTUU Alaska that he saw a moose “fighting for its life”.

“Obviously he wasn’t able to get out of the hole and he was fighting as hard as he could,” Nessi said.

Realizing he needed to act, the brave bystander enlisted the help of some nearby neighbors and called upon wildlife and state troopers to assist in the rescue mission.

A group of six men wrapped a rope around the front legs of a moose and pulled the creature off the glacier.

Footage of the rescue effort showed the men pulling on the rope as the creature struggled to return to the ground.

Eventually, the moose were recovered from the broken ice of Fairbanks’ Eric DeLeon, who also helped, noting that it was a “coordinated effort,” he told the outlet.

“With the concerted efforts of all of us, we were able to get the moose out,” Dillon said.

“It was a feat, but exhilarating, exciting and a good outcome to an unfortunate situation.”

Alaska State Troopers shared an update on Facebook saying, “Troopers in Fairbanks have been notified that an elk has fallen through the ice on the Chena River and could not get out.”

Troopers Chroniger, Lindblom, and Norris responded with Wildlife Trooper McDowell.

With the help of some local neighbours, the Troopers successfully rescue the moose from the water and bring them to the riverbank.

Although tired and cold, the moose was able to stand on its own and was thankful for the help.

The soldiers wish the moose a happy Easter and warn her of the dangers of melting ice in the river.
