Former Pro Bowl and Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Robert Griffin III is calling for an end to hatred against Donald Trump’s supporters. He says the country must reunite after a divisive presidential election.
A week after Trump won back the White House, Griffin made an effort to get Kamala Harris’ supporters to accept Trump voters.
“Dear America, this is a safe space. Calling any of the 75 million Americans who voted for Donald Trump bigots cannot unite people,” Griffin wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
“How would you build a community where Black, White, Native American, Latinx, Asian and all people celebrate their unique cultural backgrounds and beliefs without division?”
As Democrats search for answers after their crushing election defeat last week, Griffin is trying to preach unity in an American political landscape that is at its most divided in at least a century.
Last week, Griffin quickly responded to claims by MSNBC host Joe Scarborough that Harris lost because of “misogyny of black men.”
Robert Griffin III believes Democrats should stop hating Donald Trump supporters
“Black men support black women,” Griffin said, adding, “Stop tearing down and blaming black men for everything under the sun when it comes to black women.”
Griffin hasn’t shied away from politics on his social media accounts, especially during this election cycle.
He was critical of both Trump and President Biden when they met in their only presidential debate on June 27.
“My God, this presidential debate proves we need younger presidential candidates,” Griffin wrote on X that night.
Griffin also tried to appeal for calm when Trump’s attempted assassination occurred last summer.
“Hey man, I don’t really care how much you love or hate President Donald Trump. This is not the time to play politics,” Griffin said in a video.
“Now is the time to pray for Donald Trump, his family and the families of those who lost someone in the shooting.
“We have people here who are so focused on the fact that they think this assassination attempt was staged, and they forget the fact that someone died.”
