Former Chicago Bears star quarterback Jay Cutler allegedly tried to pay the person he crashed into not to call the police before his arrest on suspicion of DUI.

Police in the Nashville suburb of Franklin, Tennessee, responded to a call Thursday afternoon after Cutler rear-ended the driver in front of him.

Cutler allegedly offered the other driver $2,000 not to call the police, according to a police report reviewed by WGN in Chicago.

Police say they noticed a strong odor of alcohol during their conversation with Cutler, who allegedly had bloodshot eyes and was slurring his speech.

Cutler refused a field sobriety test and was taken to a hospital, where a blood sample was obtained through a blood search warrant, according to authorities.

Cutler initially told police he had not consumed alcohol before allegedly admitting to drinking “a little bit.”

He has also been charged with failure to exercise due care to avoid a collision, as well as possession of a pistol, while under the influence of alcohol after a rifle and a loaded Glock were found in his vehicle.

Cutler was released from the Williamson County Jail later Thursday after posting $5,000 bail.

After playing college football at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Cutler played 12 seasons in the NFL.

He was selected 11th overall to the Denver Broncos and played in the Mile High City for three seasons before being traded to the Chicago Bears.

Cutler was best known for his time in Chicago, leading them to an appearance in the NFC Championship game in 2010 and playing there for eight seasons.

He played one season with the Miami Dolphins in 2017 before retiring from the sport.

Outside of the sports world, Cutler is best known for being married to reality star Kristin Cavallari.

According to a source, Cutler always “marches to the beat of his own drum,” adding that “Kristin gets along with him, but this is just disappointing.”

“She’ll talk about it on her podcast, but she sees it as a black eye and now hates having to be present and respond,” they shared.

The source added that Cutler will always “do what he wants to do,” hinting that played a role in the breakdown of his marriage.

“That won’t change, which was the main reason they broke up in the first place,” they added.

A source shared that Cavallari had thought her ex-husband was “generally fine” and didn’t expect this to happen.

“Now that he’s done it, they’re going to have some conversations about where his head is at, if he needs help, or if it was an unfortunate incident,” they explained.

“I’m sure he’s happy that no one got hurt or worse, but it’s frustrating having to deal with Jay’s problems,” they said.

The source continued: “There is no world in which this should have happened in Kristin’s mind, but now that it has happened, they will deal with it and she can only hope for the best, but it’s not a good look at all.”
