Ex-MP Daryl Maguire charged with criminal conspiracy over visa scheme

Former NSW Liberal MP Daryl Maguire is charged with criminal conspiracy for allegedly plotting to commit visa theft while he was sitting at the NSW parliament.

Former Wagga Wagga MP was forced to resign following an anti-corruption investigation. Later, it was revealed that she had been in a secret relationship with Gladys Berejiklian. She is now accused of conspiring between January 2013 and August 2015 with Maggie Sining Logan, a migration agent.

Federal prosecutors allege he conspired with Logan to have false or misleading documents furnished for official purposes in connection with non-citizens’ visas.

Maguire’s case was mentioned in Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday. The court was moved to February 7, so that the brief of evidence could be served by the prosecutors.

He Has not yet entered a plea. His lawyer has been reached for comment.

There are no indications that Berejiklian is involved. She He was not implicated in Maguire’s schemes, as revealed by the NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption.

While under oath at the ICAC, Maguire admitted to using his position as an MP, parliamentary secretary and NSW Asia-Pacific parliamentary friendship group chairman “with a view to making money” for himself and his associates between 2012 and 2018.
