‘Sorry to disappoint everyone:’ Ex-Corrie star Craig Charles, 57, reveals he has Covid and his ‘breathing is labored’ ahead of starting new BBC radio job
Ex-Coronation Street star Craig Charles has revealed he has contracted Covid and his ‘breathing is difficult’ due to the illness.
The TV star turned DJ, 57, – who played Lloyd Mullaney in the ITV soap – told how he ‘sorry disappointed everyone’ before starting his new job at BBC Radio 6 Music.
He also said he “didn’t want to alarm anyone” with his news and that he isolated himself, before adding that he was “starting to feel a little better.”

His message on Twitter on Saturday read: ‘Okay guys, I don’t want to alarm, but I’ve caught the Covid.
“Breathing is a bit difficult, which is a concern, but I have an oxy monitor so far no hospital.
‘Starting to feel a little better but need to isolate, sorry to disappoint everyone. Back soon.’

Hundreds of fans responded by sending the star messages of support.
One fan wrote: ‘Get well soon Craig, my wife and I are both having it this week too, we’re trying to rest, I hope you are too.’
While another follower tweeted: “Sorry to hear that Craig. I hope you get better soon.’

Craig, best known as Lloyd in Corrie and Dave Lister in Red Dwarf, announced the news that he would be hosting a brand new show, The Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show on 6 Music in July.
He said in a statement at the time: “I was made up to be able to present a brand new show on 6 Music later this year.”

Craig takes over Shaun Keaveny, who approved his replacement via Twitter.
He wrote: ‘My funk soul brother, you are one of my favorite people in broadcasting. You know this. We used to joke when you filled in for me at breakfast, in fact it was me filling in for you until you could dab again, you were that popular! You’re going to be so good. OPEN THE TRUNK!’
