Shortly after the shooting at around 3:15 PM, a Long Branch police officer, George Samol, flagged and warned him of the altercation, NJ.com reports.

The motorist said there had been a fight at the restaurant, with shots fired through the windshield, according to a statement from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

Samol entered the eatery and watched Silva and her 18-year-old son wrestle the pistol out of the Camara weapons.

By the time the officer ordered Camara to drop his weapon, Silva’s son had already secured the weapon.

Authorities said Camara then tried to take Samol’s gun from him, but he couldn’t get it from the officer. Backup soon came to the scene.

He is said to have repeatedly aimed the weapon at Moreira before killing him. After trying to shoot his ex twice, the gun fight followed.

Camara may face up to 45 years in prison and is expected to be sentenced on September 11.
