Former Barcelona ‘B’ and Argentina youth star Maxi Rolón has died in a car accident at the age of 27 after his vehicle crashed into a tree.

In a statement, Barcelona said it was “shocked” by the death of Maxi, who played for the club’s second team between 2010 and 2016.

Maxi’s brother, Ariel, was also killed in the incident with Casilda in Santa Fe, which occurred when their car went off the road and hit a tree.

The two brothers had been playing in the regional Casildense League tournament which has since been suspended due to the tragic deaths of Maxi and Ariel.

We are shocked by the death of Maxi Rolón (born in 1995), FC Barcelona’s youth squad between 2010 and 2016.

Maxi scored two goals in 24 appearances for Barcelona’s ‘B’ team before leaving for Brazil’s Santos.

After returning to Spain with Lugo, he went on to play for clubs in Argentina, Ecuador, Chile and Iraq.

He was a member of the Argentina team that won the 2015 South American Under-20 Championship and subsequent World Cup alongside his brother Leonardo.

Rolon played in several countries during his career, which included a spell for Al Diwaniya in Iraq.
