Former Aston Villa captain Stan Collymore has called on football clubs to ban players from drinking alcohol in light of Jack Grealish’s recent activities.

After winning the Premier League title with Manchester City, Grealish celebrated with the rest of the team on a tour bus before departing for Ibiza.

The 26-year-old was again seen partying in Las Vegas after the English Nations League games.

Collymore recently warned Grealish that he could become a ‘circus’ like himself or Paul Gascoigne, and he has now called on clubs to intervene.

In his Mirror columnCollymore wrote: “I am actually appalled by the number of pundits, professionals, former professionals and supporters who fell into the latter camp, who have spent the past few days picking up photos of him partying in Las Vegas and Jack encouraged the boy.

“I can now guarantee him that those same people will reprimand him for being a luscious when he has a dip in form.

‘…I know the trauma I went through from my own naivety in my playing time and I see the similarities. He needs to learn that he’s not just Jack van Brum anymore, he’s public property, and that’s why my message remains: ‘Please, boy, change course and take it from me that the ‘price’ of what you do isn’t right.

“I would say this to any player whose antics saw him regularly appear on the front pages of newspapers and websites – and I hope he will soon take my advice. As crazy as this may sound to non-athletes, I would actually like to see football clubs ban alcohol consumption by players altogether.’

Collymore went on to say that it would be difficult for the likes of Grealish and Phil to stay away from alcohol because it is part of British culture.

The 51-year-old also explained how alcohol is a toxin to the body and could affect football players’ performance on the pitch, much like a motorcyclist.
