Fans of the long-awaited film Wicked were left divided over Ariana Grande’s voice in the hit film ahead of its November 22 release.
In the upcoming adaptation of the hit musical, Ariana, 31, takes on the role of Galinda Upland, also known as Glinda the Good Witch of the North, and both she and her co-star, Cynthia Erivo, sing live in the film.
However, after watching trailers and various clips online, many people have commented on the pop star’s singing skills, with some fearing that she is not up to Broadway standards.
On X, formerly known as Twitter, one person wrote: “People say, ‘Why is this so bad?’ It sounds great.” It sounds good, but it doesn’t sound like someone singing in a musical.
‘It is necessary to have very clear diction. The words must be very clear and you must excite each line. Real Broadway actresses don’t sing like that,” they added.
A second person complained, “His voice is so annoying,” and a third said, “It sounds great, but it could have been so much better.” There is such a lack of emotion that it sounds like he is whispering. What a shame.’
A fourth person posted: ‘I tried to stop hating evil people until I saw legit evidence that it was going to suck, but I really don’t like how floaty (??) and volatile Ari’s voice sounds in this.
“I’m not a vocal expert, but the way he pronounces the words while singing HAS BEEN annoying in my opinion (in my opinion),” they added, while someone else said: “He’s missing that popUuularrrr thinness and softness, he’s rusty and It doesn’t sound good at all.’

The 31-year-old pop star plays the role of Galinda Upland, also known as Glinda the Good Witch of the North.
Another fan noted: “I’m well aware that they sing live in the movie, but the studio version should also sound like she’s in character, and the crazy vocals don’t really matter if she sounds like Ariana Grande instead of Galinda. ‘
However, others were quick to praise Ariana’s voice after watching clips of the film online as one person gushed: “You can tell she’s a theater kid because LISTEN TO THOSE VOCALSSSSS.”
Another wrote: “Ariana has an incredible vocal range,” while a third said: “Ariana sounds incredible and I implore you all to listen to the original Broadway performance by Kristin Chenoweth… who is the same Kristin who has been a Fue mentored Ariana for over a decade and helped her prepare for the role. His two cents are irrelevant!’
Someone else said: ”People are so impressed with Popular, and for good reason. But wait until you hear what Ariana Grande does with No One Mourns The Wicked. That’s where your training and vocal growth will shine the most.”
A different person admitted, “I’m really hurt by the discourse on Twitter about Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo’s voices as if they aren’t objectively some of the best vocalists in the industry today.”
Another fan stated: “It’s shocking to hear Ariana Grande’s music after WICKED because she really changed her entire voice to create a Glinda that is her mix with what came before, especially her performance of “No One Mourns the Wicked,” totally separate from it. characteristic voice that we all know”.
The comments come just a day after fans were left in an uproar when the Into You hitmaker corrected the lyrics of a song from the much-loved musical.
The film’s Instagram account posted a video of Ariana singing Popular, along with accompanying lyrics flashing on the screen.
One person suggested Ariana’s voice could have been “much better” in X
One X user described Ariana and her co-star, Cynthia Erivo, as “some of the best vocalists.”
One fan argued that she “sounds amazing” and mentioned Ariana’s mentor, Kristin Chenoweth.
Another person claimed that ‘real Broadway actresses don’t sing like that’
Ariana stars alongside Cynthia Erivo in the film, directed by Jon M. Chu.
However, Ariana intervened after noticing an inaccuracy.
While the lyric video says Ariana is singing the word “poise,” the singer claimed she was actually singing “strategies.”
They are “strategies”!!!!!! I love you @wickedmovie,’ commented Ariana, who has been busy promoting the film lately, along with several emojis.
His correction confused several Wicked fans who initially believed the lyrics read “poise.”
While many agreed with Ariana, several others were caught off guard to learn that the lyric was actually a “strategy.”
‘Excuse me! ‘I’ve been saying the wrong word for 20 years!?!’ posted one stunned fan.
‘wait for their stratagems????’ one fan posted, while another commented: ‘OMG I always thought it was poise too!’
The official Wicked soundtrack will be available on November 22, the same day the film opens in theaters.
