It has been revealed that former NFL quarterback Cam Newton will be joining ESPN’s First Take.

The Hollywood Reporter claims that Newton, who spent most of his 11-year career with the Carolina Panthers, will make his debut at the Tennessee State football game this Friday as part of First Take’s HBCU roadshow.

The morning sports talk show, hosted by Stephen A. Smith and Molly Qerim, is one of the network’s most popular shows and also features the likes of Shannon Sharpe and Chris ‘Mad Dog’ Russo.

“I’ve always brought passion and energy to everything I do, and that won’t change at ESPN,” Newton is quoted as saying. ‘I’m looking forward to the opportunity to share my perspective and go head to head with the best in the business.

“Fans can expect the same intensity I brought to the field, along with real conversations, bold takes and lots of fun.”

Newton initially spent nine seasons with the Panthers after being selected with the first overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.

The Atlanta-born quarterback was named NFL MVP in 2015, the same season he helped Carolina reach its second Super Bowl, which ended in a loss to the Denver Broncos.

He spent a brief time with the New England Patriots and another season with the Panthers, but has not played since the team did not re-sign him in 2021.

“The addition of Cam Newton to First Take brings an electrifying presence, enhancing our roster of A-list personalities,” said ESPN executive David Roberts.

“His dynamic charisma, combined with high-profile debates alongside Stephen A. Smith, will create compelling, must-watch television for fans.”
