Blake Lively’s actor father Ernie Lively has passed away.

He was 74.

Lively died of heart complications in Los Angeles on Thursday, June 3, according to his family THR.com.

The Maryland native made his Hollywood debut with a small role in The Waltons in 1975 and then enjoyed a steady acting career with his final role in the independent film Phobic, released last year.

Most notably, he played the on-screen father of his famous daughter in her 2005 film debut The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.

He reprized the character for the 2008 film’s sequel.

Lively was also a respected acting coach, as was his wife Elaine, whom he married in 1979, and Blake has credited watching her parents teach as inspiration for her own acting career.
