Borussia Dortmund took a massive blow in the run-up to the DFB Cup semi-finals, with star striker Erling Haaland being ruled out due to injury.
The Norwegian, who has scored a whopping 37 goals in 38 games this season, was out of Dortmund’s crunch match due to a “ slight muscle problem, ” the club confirmed on Twitter.
Dortmund had released the team sheet ahead of Saturday night’s game against second-tier rival Holstein Kiel, and had to clear up Haaland’s blatant omission from the squad shortly after.

‘Erling Haaland is not in the selection today due to a slight muscle problem. Get well soon, Erl! the tweet reads.
The tone of the message sought to allay concerns about a long-term problem for Haaland, with Dortmund describing the injury as ‘minor’ and trying to appear nonchalant by wishing the striker all the best.
However, Haaland was in the stands to support his teammates in securing their place in the DFB Cup final.
The news is a huge blow to Dortmund, which looks to the DFB Cup as a silver lining to this miserable season.

The club is fifth in the Bundesliga list, one place and currently one point outside the Champions League positions.
However, Haaland’s absence was not much missed by BVB as the Germans knocked five past their Bundesliga 2 rivals to secure safe passage to the domestic cup final.
The news of Haaland’s injury will have put several clubs on their guard, with the 20-year-old being the most popular transfer prospect this summer, with players like Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona all on the hunt for the £ 154 man million.
