Erling Haaland is reportedly close to committing his future to Manchester City by signing a lucrative contract extension, but the deal is expected to contain a release clause.

Haaland has enjoyed an impressive start to the new Premier League season, scoring seven goals in Man City’s first three games.

The striker went into the international break with Norway having scored three consecutive Premier League hat-tricks against Ipswich and West Ham.

Spanish newspaper Brand Haaland is reportedly expected to soon commit his future to the Premier League champions by signing a new contract.

His current contract will expire in the summer of 2027.

Marca headlines its news story with the title “renewal and termination clause.”

According to the report, Manchester City will make Haaland the highest-paid player in the Premier League through his base salary, with teammate Kevin De Bruyne currently holding the title.

De Bruyne is reportedly on £425,000-a-week wages at Man City, while Haaland currently earns a basic salary of £375,000-a-week.

However, Mail Sport understands that while Haaland receives a basic salary that is in line with other higher-earning players at the Etihad Stadium, a series of substantial and almost guaranteed bonuses see his weekly wages rise beyond the £850,000 mark.

Marca claim that Haaland’s new deal is expected to contain a release clause, which should be achievable for Spanish giants Real Madrid in the future.

The reigning Champions League holders remain admirers of Haaland, but the Norwegian is not currently seen as a priority after adding Kylian Mbappe to an already stellar attacking force this summer.

Haaland, his father Alf-Inge and agent Rafael Pimienta are reported to be considering a release clause as a way to ensure the striker retains control over his future and career.

Pimenta said last year that Haaland was “master of his destiny” but would ensure he would always do the right thing for his club.

A release clause would still give Haaland a degree of control over his future.

Manchester City activated a similar release clause when they signed Haaland for £51m from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2021.

Haaland has enjoyed impressive success at Manchester City, with the striker having scored 97 goals in 102 appearances for the club to date.

This includes winning the Premier League Golden Boot in the last two seasons.

The 24-year-old also won the Premier League twice, the Champions League and the FA Cup during his two seasons at the club.
