There were some choice words shared between Dillian Whyte and Christian Hammer following the British fighter’s explosive return to boxing.

The 35-year-old made a winning return, having been out since returning “adverse analytical results” in a pre-fight drug test ahead of his rematch with Anthony Joshua in 2023.

The positive test led to the fight at London’s O2 Arena being canceled.

Whyte made quick work of the Romanian-born Hammer, stopping him in the third round in Castlebar, Ireland, on Sunday.

But he was visibly angry with his opponent following Hammer’s corner’s decision to forfeit the white flag before the start of the fourth round.

According to Sky SportsWhyte called the 36-year-old a coward five times before adding: “Why didn’t you fight?

“I respected you. You are a coward. You are a coward.’

Whyte had calmed down somewhat in a post-fight interview, but he was still keen to emphasize his disappointment with how things played out.

“He just stopped, you know, but what can you do?” He told Boxing Social. “I’m a little upset with myself.

“It’s to be expected. I went through a lot of hell, a lot of darkness, and pent up frustration and aggression.

“During camp I was calm, everything was calm but it had to come out at some point. It’s my nature. It’s just a shame it came out like that.

Whyte had ruled proceedings from the start with a number of body shots in the first round and second.

The third round was less refined, but it nevertheless proved effective in ending the aspirations of the boxer who also suffered defeats against Joe Joyce and Tyson Fury.

The Briton took his professional record to 30-3, with those defeats coming to Gury, Anthony Joshua and Alexander Povetkin.

Whyte was making his first appearance since a majority decision victory over Jermaine Franklin in November 2022.

Ahead of Sunday’s fight, he told Sky Sports: “I would love to have one more chance at a world title. That’s the point.

“I’ve done almost everything there is to do in boxing. I have experienced the good and the bad. I just need to win a world title and that will be the icing on the cake.
