Erik ten Hag insists he is “happy” for Manchester United exile Jadon Sancho after his impressive performance for Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League semi-final.

Sancho was sent off from Old Trafford after falling out with Ten Hag over his performance levels in training at the start of the season.

The winger has rediscovered his best after returning on loan to former club Dortmund and shone as they beat Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in the first leg on Wednesday night.

When asked about his performance, United manager Ten Hag revealed little about Sancho’s future but admitted he is happy for him.

“So let’s say this: He played very well yesterday and he’s a very good player,” he said.

“Yesterday he showed why Manchester United bought him and he showed that he represents a high value for Manchester United. Which is good.

“I’m happy for Jadon, for yesterday’s performance and we’ll see what happens in the future.”

Sancho was not included in United’s squad to face Arsenal on 3 September, with Ten Hag later explaining that he was not selected due to “his performances in training”.

The Dutchman added that the players “have to reach a level every day at Manchester United.”

Responding on social media, Sancho wrote: “I won’t let people say completely false things, I’ve been very good in training this week… I’ve been a scapegoat for a long time, which isn’t fair! “.

United dropped Sancho from the first-team group on September 14 and it later emerged that the 24-year-old, who cost United £73m in 2021, was training with the academy teams.

Sancho was loaned to Dortmund in January and has returned to playing football regularly, scoring three goals and providing two assists in 17 Bundesliga and Champions League games.
